Just bought a 2011 Sorento used from an individual about a week ago. Today, after I locked the doors, I went around checking things, and when I touched the rear hatch button, the hatch opened right up. I tried 3 or 4 times to lock it, but every time, the hatch just opens right up. I know nothing about KIA's so I'm not sure what to check first.

Are you using a key fob to lock it remotely? If so, can you feel the lock trying to work (vibration in the hatch)? If yes, the solenoid is probably working (getting power) and you will probably need to remove the interior panel to see if any of the rods between the solenoid and the lock have come loose (does anything rattle in the hatch?). If the solenoid in the hatch makes no noise its not getting power. Check the manual for a fuse specific to the rear hatch and make sure its good. If the fuse is good you'll need to check the wiring and connectors. A wiring diagram is almost a must. And usually a no power symptom leads to a bad ground, so check them first.
