I have a 2016 Kia Sorrento and I could not get out of park. I took it to a Kia dealership and they said it would cost approximately.$1035.00 to replace the module. We needed the Kia Sorrento for the weekend and was shown how to use the screwdriver to release the gearshift. when we were ready to use the Kia the gears started working from park to reverse to drive, etc. (no screwdriver needed) my question, does the board/module reseted by itself or is this a glitch or will I have to replace it down the road?

We've had the same problem with the same model/year, except we continue to use the screwdriver to get it out of park. We've been quoted roughly the same price. We replaced the stop light control switch, a much cheaper fix, the last time we had the issue. But they said this time the issue was the BCM. I've found it for roughly half what the garage was going to charge me. But since the BCM controls multiple electronics issues, I'm a bit reticent to pay for this fix without getting a second opinion. As for resetting, I've read that's possible, but haven't checked my manual to see if it can be done with our car.

A related question: Will my car pass inspection if they have to manually get it out of park this way?

Just had to have the BCM on my 2016 Kia Sorento replaced at a cost of $ 1097.85. A neighbor of mine had the same problem.
Appears not to be an isolated problem and I hope Kia will issue a recall and I can get a refund.

I have the same issue. Expensive fix through the dealership. Much cheaper to purchase through ebay, but seems to be a common thing and one would think and expect to be handled by a recall since it seems like such a common issue.
