We have a 2018 Sorento and the wife has reported that while the lights are set in the “auto” mode that while driving ( during night driving) the lights will shut off. The Kia dealer hasn’t been able to replicate the issue so they can’t repair/replace anything. Has anyone else had this same issue?

That sounds pretty dangerous. Could this be happening when she moves into a well-lit parking lot? Or when driving down a dark road?

My 2018 has started having this same issue. It’s terrifying on the highway at night. Does it only happen for others in Auto mode?

Don't use auto mode. Since the Sorento turns off the lights shortly after the ignition, just leave them on, they double as daytime driving lights.

make a video it with your phone when it gets dark so they can see it. If they can’t replicate it and you have a video that is enough proof. are your headlights the auto lights as well for if they are it’s sounds like a relay to activate them from day to night has burned out maybe.

Reading into this it seems to be a switch that fails in this generation and cost around 500 bucks to get fixed. One guy said his Kia service wouldn’t fix it but if I was him I would just call Kia h.o. it’s seeing a ton of people with the same problem. I know my 2011 kia Sorento I had daytime bulb and then headlight separate. Don’t know if the 2018 is the same. Now led strip light seems to be the new daytime lights with 2 to 4 led bulbs as headlights for night.

My 2017 Sorento does the same thing. It appears that the problem is in the knob at the end of the light control arm. I jiggle it and the light’s usually come back on. Sometimes I turn them off and then back on again. I drive unlighted rural roads and this can be dangerous. Will this problem call for a Kia recall?

Yes, it happened to me while driving my 2017 Sorento last night! Driving on a very dark road and the lights went out. Luckily kept switching the lights knob and lights came back on.
Kia needs to do a recall before someone has an accident.
I always use Auto mode, but will now only use manual lights.

I'm having the exact same problem. It has happened maybe 3-4x on my way home from work, and I take highway home.

I recently started having the same problem with 2017 sorento. Taking it to the dealer soon but not holding out hope they will fix it as they said they have never heard of this happening but from reading reviews it seems a normal occurrence.

My 2017 Sorento has the same problem started recently. I dialed off the light and turn on auto, then it worked. I want to know a permanent solution to fix.

Hey kids it's more than likely your whole switch assembly. You can fix yourself but need to be handy. Airbag and steering wheel need to come of with battery disconnect and car discharged. Expensive part.

I have a 2018 Sorento and my husband drove it at night and same the lights cut off by itself while driving. Then that happened to.me driving on the freeway going 70! I have also noticed that the light randomly come on during the day. Looks like I will change them to always on.

I’m having the exact same problem with my 2017 Sorento. Just started happening in the last month. Seems random - some on interstate, some in parking lots, and at other times just in my neighborhood. Very dangerous.

My 2017 just actually just did this to me while I was driving to work. Very dangerous n it’s a county road so absolutely not a well lit area.

I woke up this morning to find my eyebrow and brake lights on. While driving day or night the lights either randomly turn on or shutoff. This has happened on multiple occasion. I have a 2017 Sorento.

Came here to see if others were having the same issue. Scary when it happens on a very dark road. I thought it was maybe when oncoming headlights hit a certain way and it thought it was day so switched off. But it has also been happening with no other cars around. I get that using continual on works but has anyone investigated a fix?
