I have a 2017 Sorento. About 6 months ago, the airbag light started coming on/off intermittently. Now it pretty much stays on most of the time.

However, I do notice that when we go on longer road trips on the highway, it tends to turn off for an extended amount of time (so assuming is then functional). Eventually comes back though (pics attached). Around town driving it stays on.

I have tried to trouble shoot it from watching some YouTube videos. This included checking connections under driver seat. Still occurs.

since it does work at times, it makes me think a loose connection. Maybe not. Any other ideas what else could be checked?

Does your steering wheel controls work perfectly? If not it might be a clock spring going bad.

Sorry for the delay on this. The steering wheel controls work fine.

About 2 months ago, I did take it to my Kia dealer and I think he mentioned the same thing about a “clock spring going bad” & it could be under an extended warranty.

However, they said it was not covered under this special extended warranty so we just took the vehicle back because I figured the dealer would charge something outrageous to diagnose it and would try a local mechanic.

I realize I should address this issue. I called a mechanic and they will give a free “initial assessment”. Basically, they MIGHT be able to tell me what is wrong. If further testing is needed, I would then get a full estimate.

Other than the “clock spring”, is there anything else it could possibly be and/or I can do to fix this?
