I have a 2015 Kia Sorento. The backup lights don't work. Started troubleshooting and found that backup circuit fuse blows when the car is put it in reverse. I disconnected the backup lights and tried again - no change. Is there a way to split that harness somewhere between the back of the car and the fuse block so I can narrow down where to look for the fault?

Need to find someone with a circuit detector. Mine is by Power Probe. I have one that chases open and closed shorts. You have a closed short. The tool sends a RF signal to the circuit you hook to. Then there is a receiver that allows you to follow that signal. When the signal stops, you are there.

So, there's 2 pieces - a sender that you connect to one end of the ckt and a receiver(?) That you trace the line with to see where you lose the signal?

That's how it works. You need to isolate the circuit as much as you can. I recommend from the bulb terminal, making sure you don't hook to the ground. If will get you within a few inches.
