Lights shutting off in auto mode

Same thing is happening to me. My lights just shut off while I’m driving. It’s very scary.

I have a 2017 Sorento SXL AWD and this issue happens to us almost daily. We always have the lights set to "auto", we'll be driving down the road at night and the headlights switch off on their own. I have to manually switch the lights off and back to auto for them to come back on. Potentially dangerous situation and Kia should issue a recall. I issued a report through the NHTSA. I see Kia extended their warranty for the multi-function switch so I hope that's what's causing the issue and I can get it fixed.

Edit (Aug 8) - I took my car into the Kia dealership yesterday and they fixed the headlight issue under the Multifunction Switch extended warranty. Cost $0. Definitely look into it.

We have a 2018 Sorento and the wife has reported that while the lights are set in the “auto” mode that while driving ( during night driving) the lights will shut off. The Kia dealer hasn’t been able to replicate the issue so they can’t repair/replace anything. Has anyone else had this same issue?
Yes I have this same problem with my 2017 Kia Sorento

I have the same happen to me a few times. Turns off at night on highway and turns on during day too. It’s at random times I can’t pinpoint what causes it.

If your Sorento is 2016-2018, you should be able to get it fixed for free under the multifunction switch warranty extension. I took it in yesterday and Kia fixed it. I guess that assumes it's the multifunction switch that's causing your particular headlight problem.

I have a 2016 Kia optima SXL turbo this is happened to me two times last week. Very scary.

We have had the same issue on our 2016 Sorento SXL. The lights go to parking mode and suddenly your in the dark. Rotating the Multi-function switch allows them to come back on.

I have the same problem on the 2017 Sorento. Now it does it when switching to bright.

I thought I was going crazy because this keeps happening on my 2017 Sorento. I’ll notice the lights aren’t on when they should be, but jiggling the handle seems to get them back on. Using the left turn signal will sometimes switch the mode as well. And then today they just stayed on at work when my car was in the parking ramp, I had to manually turn them off when someone reported my lights on. Good to know about the extended warranty on that.

Yes just started 3 weeks ago 3 times

Yes, it happened to me while driving my 2017 Sorento last night! Driving on a very dark road and the lights went out. Luckily kept switching the lights knob and lights came back on.
Kia needs to do a recall before someone has an accident.
I always use Auto mode, but will now only use manual lights.
I have a 2017 Kia Sorento and it just started happening to me, very scary

I woke up this morning to find my eyebrow and brake lights on. While driving day or night the lights either randomly turn on or shutoff. This has happened on multiple occasion. I have a 2017 Sorento.
Probably your rear parking lights instead of break lights? Got same problem here. Happened twice now

I recently started having this issue, too. My lights are in Auto and each time I had just turned on the left turn signal to change lanes or enter freeway from on-ramp. I am not sure if this is a pattern or coincidence at this point.

I recently started having the same problem with 2017 sorento. Taking it to the dealer soon but not holding out hope they will fix it as they said they have never heard of this happening but from reading reviews it seems a normal occurrence.
What was the outcome of taking it to the dealer? My 2017 Sorento just started doing this a few weeks ago and has done it twice while on the highway which is super scary.

I have a 2016 Sedona and for about 3 months now they turn off randomly while driving at night. Called a kia dealership and they had no clue and said they never heard of this. Sounds like this is pretty common. It’s super scary while driving with my children in the car. Any ideas how to fix it?

We have a 2017 kia sorento and the same thing happens to us, also the parking lights randomly turn on while the vehicle is parked without the key out of the ignition.

Me! I have a 2017

I have the same issue. Reported the problem in the link provided. Thank you! The dealership has not been willing to provide a rental, saying they don't have any but they will need my car for over a week to run diagnostics. Did anyone have this issue resolved and was it covered under warranty?
