Lights shutting off in auto mode

What was the outcome of taking it to the dealer? My 2017 Sorento just started doing this a few weeks ago and has done it twice while on the highway which is super scary.
I just came back from dealer and they replaced the part on the multi function switch that is covered under the extended warranty; however, they also told me this did not fix the issue on my vehicle and I need an entirely new multi function switch ASSEMBLY. This is not covered under the extended warranty and would cost around $500!

KIA has sent out an extended warranty notice for this issue. You can go get your light switch diagnosed for free and if they determine that it is that part, they will replace it. Its the blinker knob having issues. I got mine done.

We have a 2018 Sorento and the wife has reported that while the lights are set in the “auto” mode that while driving ( during night driving) the lights will shut off. The Kia dealer hasn’t been able to replicate the issue so they can’t repair/replace anything. Has anyone else had this same issue?
Yes! 2 weeks ago, but I drive a 2016 Kia Sorento Turbo. I always drive with my lights on auto, and I was driving down a pitch black road (surrounded by corn), and only a few houses and suddenly the lights went out. I quickly flicked my lights back and forth and they suddenly came back on again. Mind you, this happened before, so I was immediately aware of what I needed to do. And thankfully, there were no cars in my view.

LAST NIGHT...similar driving conditions, SAME road, same spot, the car in front of me lights suddenly went off. They freaked out and were putting their turn signals etc. on so I could see them (as it was pitch black) until they were safely able to turn their lights back on. I made sure to stay an extra safe driving distance just incase it were to happen again and I wish I could have looked to see if their car was also a Kia. Crazy it happened to us in the same spot? But definitely could be a Kia thing.

I woke up this morning to find my eyebrow and brake lights on. While driving day or night the lights either randomly turn on or shutoff. This has happened on multiple occasion. I have a 2017 Sorento.
My eyebrows never do light up. Perhaps I'm looking in the mirror wrong! LOL!!! The brake light switch would be my first item to check out! Good luck!

Just started having this issue with my 2022. Its really annoying. I also noticed my headlight turn on on their own when my vehicle is off. Something is off not sure what. Will try to reset to factory mode see if that changes anything. Kia app doesn’t indicate any issues with the vehicle which i find odd.

I’ve been having this issue my 2018 as well. Also when the car is off and parked for hours the lights have been coming back on by myself and I have to go out and turn off the automatic switch.
Yep me too. Car is at Kia right now and the BS they are saying is it’s the front camera not the multi switch. WTF. Ummmm if the camera is the sensor than that’s the problem but no Kia says I need to pay over $2k to fix. Sounds like more BS. Never again will I buy a Kia. You get what you pay for.

There is a recall for the headlight switch, I had the same issue and the part was replaced for free (they replace the headlight control and wiper control as they are one piece around the steering column). You get what you pay for? Well, sometimes yes and sometimes no. I have 145,000 miles on my 2017 and have had far less issues with Kia's and Hyundais than any other vehicles I have owned over the last 40+ years

This has happened to me twice recently. We have a 2017 Kia Sorento. I just googled to see if this is a known issue, which brought me to this site. In a panic, I flipped on the high beams for light, which worked. After that, the lights worked normally on the auto setting for the rest of my commute. I will not use the auto setting any more.

There is a recall/fix for this issue.

Loading the parts canon doesn't do anything to accurately repair a problem. Even dealership techs are becoming more inept. The fact is, the automatic light system is complex and requires a thorough assessment of the CAN/BUS system, the light module, the BCM (body control module), etc. In the meantime, you'll have to use manual function to turn on the lights. Good luck!

In early 2023, Kia sent a letter stating that the warranty on the multifunction headlight stalk for 2016-2018 has been extended to 15 years/unlimited miles. It also said Kia will reimburse owners for past repairs on this part.

My 2017 had about 140,000 miles and this was replaced by my dealer at no cost to me.

I'm betting on the bank that something is wrong with the electrics, or one of the sensors has already stopped working. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly rare for services to play with this, as it is a lot of work, if possible, it is best to diagnose the problem yourself (check where the current is coming from).

Yes we have it’s doing it all the time

My 2018 Sorento has done the same and now the actual connector to the headlight bulb is burnt out and the dealer says it’s normal

Yes about 4x now.

My daughter just reported the same issue with her 2018 Kia Sorrento. This is extremely dangerous and Kia needs to fix this before somebody gets killed on the road. How do we submit this to or send a petition to Kia for them to fix this? This is a safety hazard and has to be fixed.

I.ve been having the same issue and I commute on a very busy freeway. Very scary when this happens in the early mornings.

My 2018 has started having this same issue. It’s terrifying on the highway at night. Does it only happen for others in Auto mode?
It started happening to me. I always use Auto mode that could be the problem
