We have a 2018 Sorento and the wife has reported that while the lights are set in the “auto” mode that while driving ( during night driving) the lights will shut off. The Kia dealer hasn’t been able to replicate the issue so they can’t repair/replace anything. Has anyone else had this same issue?
I’ve been having this issue my 2018 as well. Also when the car is off and parked for hours the lights have been coming back on by myself and I have to go out and turn off the automatic switch.

I've had my lights turn off at night while driving twice now. I've woken up to find my lights on. All of this happened with the switch on auto. I also have a 2018 Sorento. Also filed a complaint at nhtsa.gov

I'm having that issue right now. Did they ever solve it?

Yes, this has happened to my wife while night driving. Started when using her turn signals. They would flicker off, but will turn back on when she wiggled the turn indicator. Want to fix, but seeing that dealer will want to replicate the problem.

Yes, happened twice to us; trying to find a solution.

Just chiming in that this happened to my wife today. I filed a complaint per the link above and I suppose we’ll just put the lights in manual mode until there’s a workable solution (hopefully through a recall).

That sounds pretty dangerous. Could this be happening when she moves into a well-lit parking lot? Or when driving down a dark road?
it happens when driving at night in normal night traffic. Once it happened on the Interstate 35 hwy.

I ahve had it happen a few times on our 2017. We reported it to Kia, but they blah blah blah..........

I have a 2019 KIA SORENTO that the engine would not shut off that has the smart start, and then while driving to an auto parts/service I lost the headlights again. Several times over the last few weeks I have noticed an issue with the headlights turning off and not coming back on while driving. I had an automotive service tech look and try multiple things to get the headlights working to get the car home in the dark. (nothing worked) The engine would still not shut off so I was able to get it home via back roads in the dark. My neighbors came over to help and still no headlights and car engine would not shut off. Ended up finally pulling the fuel fuse after another 10 minutes the car shut off. Then the interior lights would not shut off, so disconnected the battery cable.

My 2017 Sorento does the same thing. It appears that the problem is in the knob at the end of the light control arm. I jiggle it and the light’s usually come back on. Sometimes I turn them off and then back on again. I drive unlighted rural roads and this can be dangerous. Will this problem call for a Kia recall?
I have a 2017 Kia Sorento LX and I'm having the same light issues when it's on Auto..I'm going to contact Kia as well as the better business Bureau because I'm reading too many Kia owners with the same dangerous issues especially when they turn off while I'm driving at night 🤔

Well well, Kia has sent a letter to us on our 2018 Sorento extending the warranty to 15 years/150000 miles on the multi-function switch. It states the contact points in the multi-function switch may become worn and it could result in intermittent headlamp flickering.

Same thing happened to my wife last night 2017 sorrento lights shut off on dark road while on auto.

I have a 2017 Sorrento. In auto mode, the lights, including headlights, go off randomly, which is a huge problem when driving at night. And my lights, at least parking lights, go on randomly during the day or night even when just parked with the car off, when in the auto mode. Can’t use auto mode. Have to turn the lights on or off.

I woke up this morning to find my eyebrow and brake lights on. While driving day or night the lights either randomly turn on or shutoff. This has happened on multiple occasion. I have a 2017 Sorento.
I have a 2016 and it is doing the same thing. It started out turning off and now it will turn on as well by itself when its sitting in the yard. Its so strange and its dangerous!

My head lights have turned off by themselves several times now while driving my 2017 Sorento at night. I just jiggle the light switch and they come back on. There's obviously an issue to be looked at.

I have been having the same issue with the lights turning off suddenly. I use Auto Mode. It's always when it's dark out. Going to take into the dealer but will not be surprised if they say they won't cover it. I have an electronics warranty as well - so maybe that will cover it?

Yes I have the same issue. I haven’t been able to get to the dealer yet but it’s a random thing that happens

We have the opposite issue. Our lights won’t go off while in auto mode after the car is shut off. We have to turn them off manually.
